Our 6 harvest cellar hands have joined the winery and vineyard team with lots of training, cleaning and general vintage preparation. There is a great mix of youth, experience and above all, a common goal of wine excellence.
The 2022 harvest officially commenced for Gapsted Wines on Wednesday 23rd February. It started in the early morning with the harvest of Pinot Grigio fruit from a valued Alpine Valleys grower destined for a new project wine code-named: Ramato (shhh...it's a secret). It continued on Friday 25th February with Chardonnay from the King Valley. Picked at the precise time with fresh and pristine sparkling Chardonnay flavours and the fine natural acid balance which is essential for making beautiful, ethereal sparkling wines. On Monday 28th February, the first Prosecco fruit of the harvest came into the winery with this also earmarked for a new and exciting sparkling wine (also a secret).
The growing season of 2022 has been one of mild weather, with consistent rainfall and balanced canopies ensuring even ripening and allowing the vine’s full potential to shine.

INTRODUCING HENRY
Henry started at Gapsted Wines in early December, working 3 months at Cellar Door over Summer. He’s always wanted to do a Victorian vintage after working in the wine industry in McLaren Vale & Adelaide and is keen to expand his skills on the winemaking side, so a vintage at Gapsted Wines was the perfect fit. He’s really looking forward to getting into vintage, the team has been really friendly and accommodating. He’s keen to learn new processes as everything is a little bit different from the past wineries he’s worked at and is looking forward to learning different ways of doing things.
