From the cool heart of Victoria’s Alpine Valleys comes a wine that reflects the rugged beauty of the High Country, the nuance of the vintage, and the mastery of our winemaking team. The High Country 2024 Tempranillo is a bold yet refined expression of this distinctive region - crafted with patience, precision, and respect for place.
Harvested in the early hours of March 12, the low-yielding fruit reached optimum flavour and tannin ripeness before undergoing a meticulous vinification process. Cold soaking, gentle fermentation, and 18 months of maturation in French and American oak have shaped a wine of depth and complexity.
Aromatically, it opens with lifted notes of dark cherry and star anise, evolving into layers of plum, blackberry, and a subtle hint of liquorice. On the palate, this medium to full-bodied wine delivers an interplay of varietal fruit, ripe tannins, fine acidity, and focused oak integration. The finish is long, refined, and persistent; hallmarks of a wine built for both immediate enjoyment and graceful ageing.
The 2024 vintage was one of contrasts: a wet spring followed by a warm, condensed ripening period. While yields were down, the quality soared, producing wines of exceptional character and structure. This Tempranillo is a testament to that resilience and the unique Alpine Valleys terroir - snow-fed breezes, varied altitudes, and fertile alluvial soils.
Pair it with slow-cooked lamb shoulder or chargrilled vegetables for a dining experience that honours its Spanish heritage and Australian soul.
