Gapsted 2022 Harvest Diaries 6th Edition. Sharing personal insights into our harvest journey – the people and the stories behind Gapsted Wines.
This is our last instalment as we come to the end of Vintage 2022. The estate Touriga Nacional and Cabernet Sauvignon have now been harvested along with the balance of our Heathcote Shiraz and King Valley Shiraz and Merlot. We have managed to get to the end of Vintage with a really cool finish which bodes well for flavour intensity and tannin ripeness. Looking back over the entire sparklings, whites and reds that have entered the Gapsted winery, the winemaking team consider it to be an excellent vintage with yields slightly lower than 2021 vintage, but quality on par. As the wines finish fermenting, we will start the assessment of each of the batches and they’ll enter the next phase of maturation as they are released over the next 12-18 months.
We’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the entire Vintage team for their hard work and attention for detail. We look forward to sharing a drink together at the 2022 Vintage party!
INTRODUCING VALERIO
Valerio comes to Gapsted Wines all the way from Verona in Northern Italy. It’s his first vintage at Gapsted Wines and first Australian vintage, but he has completed 5 vintages in Italy. He’s enjoyed learning Australian processes and how to do the job in a bigger winery as in Italy he’s only worked in smaller wineries. He has especially enjoyed learning the different styles we create using the same grape varieties he has worked with in Italy. Thanks for being a part of our 2022 Vintage team Valerio!
