Our Winemaker Greg Bennett selected our Valley Selection 2023 Riesling as his must-have wine this season: “I love Riesling for its beautiful aromatics. It can be drunk young or when they are 20 years old and they are still so enjoyable. Rieslings are very expressive of their terroir and our Valley Selection Riesling is an age worthy expression of purity of fruit and sense of place, beautifully showcasing its single vineyard King Valley origins.”
Bursting with classic King Valley Riesling charm, this wine greets you with bright aromas of fresh lemon, lime, and delicate floral notes. On the palate, it’s a zesty explosion of flavour, delivering vibrant grapefruit, lime and kiwifruit that lead to a crisp, long, and refined finish. Energetic and refreshing, it's a wine that leaves a lasting impression.
The fruit for our Valley Selection 2023 Riesling was sourced from King Valley Vineyard, established in 1977 by the Cavedon family. At an elevation of over 400 metres, the vineyard features gently sloping red volcanic soils. Best viticultural practices are followed, relying on natural rainfall with underlying basalt retaining moisture to support the vines during warm weather. The north-south rows are shaded by the nearby mountain range, offering protection from hot days.
After harvesting, the grapes were immediately drained for the first flush of free-run juice before destemming. A cool 13-day fermentation was followed by three months on yeast lees with regular stirring to enhance finesse and balance.
