Introducing our Montepulciano

Our Valley Selection Limited Release range will be showcasing some new varieties that you haven’t seen from Gapsted Wines before and the first is the Italian varietal Montepulciano. The variety from Abruzzo in Italy thrives in cool climates, so is well suited to the King Valley. It’s a dark and full-bodied varietal with generous fruit that pairs beautifully with rich foods.

We are really proud of our inaugural release Valley Selection 2021 Montepulciano and it has already become a staff favourite that we are sure will be gracing many a dinner table soon! Here’s what winemaker Toni Pla Bou has to say.

“Our Valley Selection 2021 Montepulciano exhibits all the characteristics of a high-quality vintage. It has a very deep vibrant colour, has excellent tannin ripeness and a wonderful depth of fruit flavour. The nose is complex with blackcurrant, violets, plums and toasted oak. The palate has great presence, with an abundance of blackberry, stewed plums, offset by sweet spicy oak.  The wine is substantial and as such pairs well with Ricotta Ravioli in a rich tomato sauce, Swordfish with Tomato, Olive and Capers or Rich Glazed Pork Spare Ribs. The Montepulciano will age comfortably for 10 years and beyond.”
