The Gapsted Estate 2022 Saperavi, part of our newly released Gapsted Estate Luxury Collection, stands as a pinnacle of precision, patience, and place.
Crafted by winemaker Andrew Santarossa, our Saperavi is striking from the outset. Its deep, inky crimson hue hinting at the richness to come. Aromatically, it opens with a rush of wild forest berries, blackberry compote, and dark cherry, seamlessly layered with notes of bay leaf, tarragon, and finely woven cedary oak.
On the palate, this wine is expansive and powerful yet defined by finesse. Concentrated black fruits, blackberry, Satsuma plum, and cherry, are complemented by savoury threads of aniseed, bay leaf, nutmeg, vanilla, and a whisper of charry oak. The tannins are firm but beautifully integrated, giving the wine structure without sacrificing elegance. Its cool-climate acidity brings clarity and drive, leading to a long, persistent finish.
The 2022 growing season brought rainfall from spring through to late summer and slow ripening across the vineyard, our experienced team carefully nurtured the fruit to ensure optimum ripeness and character. Yields may have been low, but what we gained in concentration and balance made the effort worthwhile.
