Saperavi is a red grape variety originating from Georgia on the Black Sea, the birthplace of modern winemaking circa 5000 BC and is one of the few red grapes to have red flesh, contributing to its beautiful deep inky colour.
Estate-grown here at our Alpine Valleys vineyard, it's a variety we love showcasing here at cellar door and at wines shows as it delights new wine drinkers and wine connoisseurs alike. It also grabs the attention of wine reviewers vintage after vintage and we love Mike Bennie's take on our 2019 Limited Release Saperavi.
"Huge perfume, cola and sarsaparilla, kirsch, sage leaf too. Love the way this smells. Very silky, supple texture, amazing actually, such goodness and evenness here. More of the cola, sarsaparilla, lovely bitter sweetness through the wine, good spice too. Big but fresh feel. This is delicious."
