Best Cabernet - 2023 James Haliday Cabernet Challenge

We are thrilled to have been awarded the regional trophy for Best Cabernet at the recent 2023 James Haliday Cabernet Challenge. We’ve been waiting for our hand-crafted trophy created by Melting Pot Glass Studio to arrive at the winery all the way from Western Australia, and here it is with our winemaker Toni Pla Bou and the trophy winning wine – our Ballerina Canopy 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon!

It’s a beautiful expression of King Valley Cabernet displaying aromas of ripe blackberry and mulberry fruit with hints of roasted coffee and vanilla pod. A rich and intensely full-flavoured palate brimming with blackcurrant, blackberry, bay leaf, and a hint of liquorice. Aged for 18 months in a blend of new and old French oak, the oak delivers cinnamon, nutmeg, cedar, vanilla and toast with a palate that has a fine structure, a depth of complex flavours and persistence. This Cabernet is a youthful wine with fresh fruit characters along with integrated fine grained tannins that will allow it to age gracefully for up to 15 years. Enjoy it with rosemary and thyme roasted lamb with wilted spinach.
