The Origin of ‘Lusitania’
Lusitania was the name of the Roman Empire province in Western Europe corresponding to modern day Portugal. The three varieties making up this blend originate from this area. Lusitania was also the name of an ocean liner that at one time held the record for the fastest Atlantic Ocean crossing and was infamously sunk by a German U-boat off the coast of Ireland in 1915. The sinking of the Lusitania was a major factor in building support for America to enter World War 1. Lastly the Cuban cigar manufacturer Partagas, which was established in Havana in 1845 and is one of the world’s oldest cigar brands, makes a hand-made vitola double corona cigar called Lusitania.
The Wine Blend (Sezão, Merenzao (Bastardo) and Touriga Naçional)
It all starts with the finesse, fine structure and acidity of the Sezão which tightens, brightens and drives the long palate of the wine. The Meranzao contributes bright and fragrant florals and herbal lift as well as red fruit energy. The Touriga Naçional brings a savoury tannin depth and breadth to the palate, black and blue fruits and licorice spice characters. Wonderfully complex, this medium to full bodied blend works together to create the perfect chorus.
Enjoy this wine with the traditional Portuguese indulgent smoked meat sandwich called Francesinha.

Drunk your last drop of Ballerina Canopy Chardonnay? Our Valley Selection 2023 Chardonnay, made from fruit from Evans Vineyard in the King Valley, will fill that void.
This wine shows intense aromas of ripe white stone fruit and citrus pith, with grilled almonds, ginger spice and subtle flint. The palate has ripe stonefruit flavours beautifully balanced with citrus and red apple dancing in the background along with the integrated French oak characters. The creamy mouthfeel texture from fine lees ageing is supported by refined acidity giving the wine focus and purpose. The finish is precise and the savoury nuttiness leaves a tactile sensation that is long and persistent.
Enjoy with the flavours of a Saganaki cheese, maple smoked bacon, pineapple, spinach and Kewpie mayo burger on a milk bun.
