Aromas of white peach and nectarine lead to a refined palate of distinctive stone fruit with hints of toasty vanilla complexity. This powerful expression of Chardonnay has a wonderful line and length with a persistent finish.
Enjoy this wine with pan-fried ricotta gnocchi and sage butter.
The fruit for the 2023 Chardonnay was picked in late March at 12.1° baumé. The grapes were harvested from a blend of cool climate and warmer climate chardonnay and underwent malolactic fermentation, to build in richness, complexity and maintain freshness. The wine saw high quality French oak to give the wine depth and structure. The wine sat on yeast lees for three months and it was periodically stirred to bring harmony and silkiness to the palate.
THE VINTAGE
The 2023 vintage will go down as not only one of the latest on record, but also one of the most challenging in recent memory. A third La Niña event in a row made for a much cooler and wetter spring followed by a cool summer and autumn with small rain events that certainly kept us on our toes. Whilst the weather made for some stressful and busy periods, we were able to harvest everything at optimum ripeness.
