This wine shows the typical deep red garnet hues of youth. The nose displays savoury blackberry, black pepper, roasted capsicum and hints of truffle. The palate is a tight knit complex of blackberry fruit, blood plum and sweet spicy grape and oak tannin. The wine was aged in American and French oak barrels, and has the tannin and fruit structure to mature gracefully in bottle for up to 10 years from vintage.
“Post-ferment maceration of 60 days; matured in American and French oak (20% new) for more than 12 months. Sourced from the warmer, northern parts of Heathcote, this speaks of lifted floral aromatics and a gentle medium-bodied expression, belying the highish alcohol reading. Juicy, lip-smacking dark fruits, plum, complex baking spices, a touch of eucalyptus here and anise there. Sparks up towards the finish with a brisk tannin presence.” Jeni Port, Halliday Wine Companion website
