THE WINE
This wine is very much Saperavi, yet it is so much more. It surpasses its varietal definitions and stands tall as a benchmark great wine. Weighty with aromas of blackcurrant, violets and toasty vanilla. The palate is densely structured, thick with layers of ripe blackcurrant, black plum, rosehip, violets, grassiness, clove, and cedary oak. The wine is impressive, imperial on the palate, with depth, structure, fullness and articulate expression. This wine needs a substantial dish to pair with. Our Magnum Reserve is ideally suited to Beef Wellington served with a Horseradish Gravy.
The 2022 vintage brought a challenging growing season, marked by unpredictable rainfall from the start of spring through to late summer. It was a cool year in what is already a cool-climate region, leading to slower ripening, precise vineyard management, and an extra layer of patience.
It was a true team effort. Our experienced winery team, who know this land and these vines intimately, worked tirelessly to nurture the fruit through the ups and downs of the season. While yields were down, the grapes we harvested displayed exceptional concentration, balance, and character.
