Gapsted Estate 2023 Harvest Diaries 7th Edition

It is the final push after Easter and we’ve started picking our Heathcote Shiraz and with this extended growing season we’ve got a lovely freshness as well as the classic boldness that Heathcote Shiraz is known for. The Estate Grand Manseng and Cabernet Sauvignon will be harvested on Friday along with the balance of our Alpine Valleys Cabernet Sauvignon. We have managed to get very close to the end of vintage just as the seasons are changing and it bodes well for our reds: intense and elegant flavours, natural acid balance and fine, tannin ripeness.

“Wine has been part of civilized life for seven thousand years. It is the only beverage that feeds the body, soul and spirit of man and at the same time stimulates the mind.” – Robert Mondavi

MEET OUR 2023 VINTAGE CREW!

Max is from California, where he completed his first vintage in 2020. He chose to work at Gapsted as the King and Alpine Valleys are similar to parts of central coast California so remind him a little of home. Max has really enjoyed working with such a diverse group of people and his words “fun, energetic and curious” perfectly sum up our 2023 Vintage Crew! Max has loved the beauty and nature of our region, especially the hikes, Mount Buffalo and the number of waterfalls and swimming spots. But his favourite part of living here has been staying with Ken & Carol Bailey and his “family dinners” with Connor & Rosalia. Post vintage Max is heading up the coast road from Sydney to the Great Barrier Reef before heading home to do another vintage in California.
