Gapsted 2022 Harvest Diaries 5th Edition. Sharing personal insights into our harvest journey – the people and the stories behind Gapsted Wines.
This week our exciting alternative reds have come into the winery, lead by Saperavi from our estate vineyard, Tempranillo from our two King Valley growers, the balance of our Pinot Noir and some exciting cool climate Shiraz.
What we’ve seen in the winery is intensely coloured and beautifully balanced red wines, which will have an amazing ability to age, there is a real excitement about the reds that we have taken in so far.
We are still waiting for some of our later varieties to be flavour and tannin ripe - our estate Touriga Nacional and Cabernet Sauvignon, but there is already excitement about these varieties.
We’ve started picking our Heathcote Shiraz and Sangiovese and with the extended growing season for this region we’ve got a lovely freshness as well as the classic boldness that Heathcote Shiraz is known for.
The team has enjoyed the smooth transition from whites to reds and have found a second wind as we move towards the end of vintage, with an expected finish to harvest just before Easter.
INTRODUCING EMILY
Emily joins us all the way from San Francisco. She moved here just to work vintage then decided to stay because she liked the area so much. Emily has always thought the wine industry was interesting and grew up visiting wineries with her family, so working Vintage has turned out to be the perfect experience to complement her time here in Australia. This is her second stint with Gapsted Wines and she’s looking forward to working with the same guys from last year, Chris, Sacca & Richard and just having fun!
Gapsted Wine Club members are the first to hear about our new vintage releases.
